In Préfailles, the town just next to La Plaine-sur-Mer, you’ll find Pointe Saint-Gildas, a rocky outcrop on the Côte de Jade. This natural gem affords some extraordinary views.
Lovers of fauna and flora will enjoy exploring Pointe Saint-Gildas. The 11.5 hectares of this regional nature reserve harbour some varied natural environments.
There are no fewer than 41 different natural habitats for you to see, such as: • the orchid lawns • the cliffs • the dunes • the grazed meadows • the heather moorland, and much more
This biodiversity also comprises 421 animal species, including 223 insects, 71 bird species and 6 mammal species. A beautiful place for a walk!
And, of course, you’ll find the ocean, as far as the eye can see. From the observation post, you can see the port of Saint-Nazaire in the distance. Fishermen and surfers pursue their activities side by side all along the coast. And on stormy days, this is a great spot to observe the swell and the waves crashing powerfully onto the rocks.
Those of you with inquisitive minds can visit the old semaphore, since turned into a lighthouse and museum space retracing the history of maritime communication. This headland is also the site of an old bunker dating from the Second World War.
If you are staying at our Le Ranch campsite, Pointe Saint-Gildas is just a short drive away, so you can visit any time! You can even cycle along the coast and be there in less than half an hour!
